Solvent cement is a chemical adhesive that fuses plastic pipes and fittings of similar types (like PVC, CPVC, ABS) together by dissolving the surfaces to create a permanent, molecular bond. Applied with a brush to the outside of a pipe end and the inside of a fitting, the solvents then evaporate, allowing the softened plastic to fuse when the two pieces are assembled and held. Its primary use is in plumbing and piping systems for joining drainage, water supply, and irrigation lines, offering a fast, strong, and corrosion-resistant alternative to mechanical joining methods.
